Witness one of nature's unique events in which baby olive ridley turtles head out to the Arabian Sea!!
Velas is a coastal village which falls in the Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra. Velas has been attracting nature lovers and travelers more for its Velas turtle festival, Maharashtra since its inception. Hundreds of Olive Ridley Turtles, one of the endangered and most treasured species of marine turtles, come ashore at Velas beach for breeding and lay hundreds of eggs. Velas accounts for 40% of sea turtle’s nests along Maharashtra’s coast. Besides Velas beach, other popular tourist attractions at Velas including the Bankot Fort and Shrivardhan beach. Velas has been popular for eco-tourism and weekend getaway.
Below is the plan for our trip to Velas:

March 30 (Friday)
10:00 pm – 11:00 pm Pick-ups
Pickups will be Shivajinagar , Wakad, Banner, Chandani Chawk
11:30 pm – Exit Pune city ,move towards Tamhini Ghat

Day 1 - Saturday 31 March
5:00 am - Reach Velas and freshen up.
6:30 am - Leave for the beach to see the hatchling release batch 1
8:00 am - Return to the homestay and have breakfast
9:00 am - 1:00 pm - Relax in beach/ beach games
1:00 pm - 2:00 pm Lunch
2:00 pm - Leave for Bankot fort
4:00 - 5:00 pm - Tea and Refreshments - Leave for the beach
5:30 - 6:30 pm - Hatchling release batch 2
7:00 - Return to the Homestay for dinner.
8:30 - 9:30 pm - Dinner (Veg/ Non veg)
End of day 1

Day 2 - Sunday 1 April
5:00 am Wake-up call
6:30 am - Leave for the beach to see the hatchling release batch 3
8:00 am - Return to the homestay and have breakfast
9:00 am - departure from Velas
11:00 am - Reach Shrivardhan beach and relax - You can enjoy some beach adventure sports like banana boat rides and jet ski.
Please note the cost for these are not covered on your trip cost, any of these rides will be self-sponsored and at your own risk.
12:30 noon - Traditional Coastal Maharastrian lunch (Veg / Non veg) at Shrivardhan
2:30 pm - Departure for Pune.

**Home stay(Velas is an eco-tourism village and separate rooms / hotel accommodation is not available) - Comfortable stay on shared basic will be made available to us with home-cooked Maharashtrian style vegetarian food (breakfast, lunch and dinner) and tea. Homes are comfortable with basic bedding and modern toilets attached.
